Doug Memel
Doug Memel is a veteran, high-level recruiter with a national practice. He has placed both individual partners and practice groups at AMLAW Top 30 firms in New York, Washington, D.C. and Texas. Doug has extensive experience working with partners in the corporate, finance, government contracts, intellectual property and commercial litigation sectors. He also has particular expertise in both the antitrust and energy regulatory practice areas, having placed the market-leading, powerhouse antitrust group from Cadwalader into Paul Weiss in Washington, DC. and the energy regulatory practice group led by former FERC Commissioner, Sudeen Kelly, into Akin Gump’s Washington, D.C. office.
Over the course of his career, Doug has been repeatedly praised by the partners he works with for his laid back yet professional approach to shepherding the recruiting process and the sophisticated knowledge he uses to help them find the most compelling fit for their respective practices. Law firm leaders appreciate Doug’s deep level of contact with heavy-hitters across various practice areas and in multiple legal markets. Doug recently collaborated with Gary to facilitate the move of the entire high-tech focused, patent litigation team from Paul Hastings to the Silicon Valley office of White & Case, in what firm leadership dubbed as a “transformative hire.” He has recently been recognized in the LawDragon 2024 Global 100 Leaders in Strategy and Consulting.
Outside of work, Doug enjoys spending time with his family, coaching his children in their various sports endeavors and playing golf. Doug serves on the board of his community’s Little League. He recently established the Brandon Johnston Memorial Golf Tournament in Sacramento. Doug is also an accomplished musician and played professionally for several years as a drummer in various bands.
